All users, except for collaborators and external users, can edit properties of custom fields that they can access unless their access role restricts it.
You can edit the properties of custom fields that you created and ones that are shared with you. The field properties include: field name, field type, where the field is visible, and who it’s shared with.
Account owners and admins can edit properties of any custom field in the account including the ones that are not shared with them. Visit the Managing All Custom Fields in the Account page to learn more.
Editing custom field properties doesn't affect the existing data in the field. Even if you change the field's type, the current field value stays the same until you change it.
Navigate to the folder, project, or space where the custom field is applied.
Switch to Table view.
Hover over the column name you want to edit.
Click the down arrow to the right of the field name.
Select Edit custom field from the menu.
In the pop-up, you can edit the field name or type, where the field is applied, and who it’s shared with.
Click Save.

Open the custom field management panel.
Click the custom field name in the list.
In the pop-up, you can edit the field name or type, where the field is applied, and who it should be shared with.
Click Save.
The changes that you make to a custom field are applied not only to the current folder, project, or space but also to all locations where the field is used.
You may have limited rights in the current folder, project, or space due to your access role. You can try editing the field in another location where you have full rights, or ask the person who shared the current folder, project, or space with you to update your access role. Collaborators and external users can’t edit custom field properties.
