All users, except for collaborators, can change the billing type of projects and all tasks within them unless it’s restricted by users' access role.
All projects that you create are automatically set as non-billable unless you set them as billable during the project creation. All tasks automatically inherit their billing type from the projects that they're housed in. You can manually change the billing type of projects and tasks separately from each other, if necessary.
Option 1
Navigate to the relevant project and open its info panel.
Click the circled $ icon at the top of the panel.
In the window that appears, select whether you want to:
Change the billing type only for the project itself, or
Change the billing type for the project and all the items inside it: subprojects, tasks, and time entries.
Click Change.
The billing type of the project is changed immediately. If you also choose to change the billing type of everything inside the project, this process starts immediately, but it might take some time if there's a large number of subprojects and tasks.
Option 2
Open the project's info panel.
Click the three-dot menu icon in the upper-right corner.
Hover over Financial settings.
Select Change to billable/non-billable.
Select whether you want to change just the project or everything in it, too.
Click Change.
Open the task in Task view.
Click the circled $ icon in the upper-right corner.
If you don’t see the icon on a task, that means that this task isn't housed within any billable projects and the task itself is non-billable. You can change the billing type of such tasks in Table view.
The billing type of the task is changed immediately. Keep in mind that when you change the billing type of a task, all of the time entries added for the task also get their billing type changed automatically.
Navigate to the relevant project or task and switch to Table view.
Double-click the cell of the project/task under the Billing type column.
Select the required billing type.
For projects, select whether you want to change just the project or everything in it as well, and click Change.
Alternatively for projects, you can right-click the project's title in Table view, hover over Financial settings, and select Change to billable/non-billable.
